Dear Mr. Newry,

It was with deep regret that we in the Embassy of The Bahamas in Washington, D.C., learned of the passing of your father Dr. Eugene Newry.

He has served his beloved country well as a diplomat, a freedom fighter, an educator and a surgeon. His intellectual capacity was widely respected across The Bahamas and the political divide, as he was analytical and brought scholarships to the national development challenges of our nation.

A man from humble beginnings, Dr. Newry for many years used his time and his talents in the nation building project to educate Bahamians on who we are and what we can become. On Radio and Television programmes he advised young people to “command as a king, work as a slave and create as a god.” He was revered and will be greatly missed.

| extend condolences to you, Dr. Newry’s widow, your dear mother, and your entire family on the passing of a national treasure. On behalf of the staff of the Embassy in Washington, D.C., and Consulate Offices in the United States, we commend you to He who has all wisdom.

Yours sincerely,

Wendall K. Jones
Ambassador, The Commonwealth of The Bahamas
