The Embassy of The Bahamas in Washington, D.C., extends condolences to the family of Ambassador Joshua Sears, who passed away on 4 June, 2025.
 
Ambassador Joshua Sears had a long and distinguished career in the Public Service. Some of his most notable assignments include Permanent Secretary, Ambassador of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the United States of America, Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States, Second Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Special Advisor to Prime Minister Hubert Minnis. Ambassador Sears was instrumental in several significant diplomatic initiatives, including the establishment of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.
 
Ambassador Sears is noted for his keen abilities in diplomacy and administration as he served The Bahamas with integrity and dedication. He exemplified leadership and played an integral role in the development of individuals within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Bahamas as a whole.
 
The Embassy offers its heartfelt sympathy to his wife, Michelle and his children and family. May his soul rest in peace.
