On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, the Permanent Mission of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Embassy of The Bahamas hosted “A Conversation on Economic and Sustainable Development in The Bahamas” with Senator The Hon. Michael Halkitis, Minister of Economic Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
Minister Halkitis spoke to the audience about what the country is doing regarding economic and sustainable development, including establishing the tourism development fund, investment in national security, a rent-to-own pilot program, and incentives for homeownership.
Rochelle Newbold, Special Policy Advisor at the Office of the Prime Minister, also gave a presentation on how the government is encouraging economic and sustainable development, including monitoring and enforcing regulations, youth empowerment, educating the public, and more.
