On April 3, 2024, Ambassador Chet Neymour, the Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States (OAS), assumed the Chairmanship of the Permanent Council to the OAS in a changing of the Chair ceremony. On April 3, 2024, Ambassador Chet Neymour, the Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States (OAS), assumed the Chairmanship of the Permanent Council to the OAS in a changing of the Chair ceremony. The position of Chair rotates alphabetically every three months among Member States. The outgoing Chair, Ambassador Daniel Raimondi, the Permanent Representative of Argentina to the OAS, had previously served as the Chair.
 
During the ceremony, Ambassador Neymour reaffirmed The Bahamas’ commitment to multilateralism, the OAS, and the Council’s obligation to act with clear strategy and collective resolve. He further stated that he represented the people of The Bahamas and was the vessel to execute the charge of the Government and the people.
 
Following the handover ceremony, Ambassador Neymour led the first Regular Permanent Council Meeting of its Chairmanship. The meeting was opened with a video of the Honourable Frederick Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who reiterated The Bahamas’ commitment to collaborative and active engagement with Member States. He outlined the priority items that The Bahamas will pursue during its presidency, including promoting climate action, reforming the financial architecture, and supporting concrete action in Haiti.
