His Excellency Wendall Jones, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United States, welcomed a delegation from Akhepran International Academy (AIA), including AIA President Dr. Jacinta Higgs, four teachers and seven students, during a courtesy call at the Embassy of The Bahamas.

Their visit to the Embassy served as a culmination of their attendance at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women meeting in New York from Monday, March 11, to Thursday, March 14.

 

The 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), the United Nations’ largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment convened on March 11 and ended on March 22 under the theme “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.”

 

The students from AIA, which is located in Nassau, The Bahamas, participated in the CSW68 Youth Forum. The trip was intended to provide the students with an opportunity to interact with Bahamian representatives and offer them valuable insights into the bilateral relations and initiatives of The Bahamas in the United States of America.

 

During their courtesy visit to the Embassy, Ambassador Jones discussed his role as Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United States and encouraged the students to read more and educate themselves about what is happening worldwide.

 

In addition to visiting the Embassy, the students also participated in various educational activities and tours, including visits to the Smithsonian African American Museum, the White House, and a few other historical sites.
