BAHAMAS AMBASSADOR WORKS THE U.S. CAPITOL
With new Committees in place after the recent Congressional elections and a new Republican administration in the United States, The Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Wendall Jones, has been reaching out to U.S. Congressional leaders advancing various interests and concerns.
One of the fears among Congress members is the level of Chinese influence in The Bahamas. One member, Republican Congressman Carlos Gimenez of Florida’s 28th district, told a television audience recently, “the Chinese have a huge footprint in The Bahamas only 50 miles offshore from Miami. We need to look closely on what is going on with China and The Bahamas and why is China investing so much in The Bahamas.”
Ambassador Jones expressed to Rep. Gimenez that The Bahamas is a friend to all, a foe of none and its close ties and high level of cooperation with the United States is unquestioned and clear for all to see. He said the fear of China’s influence in The Bahamas is unfounded. “The Chinese are free to conduct business in The Bahamas like Americans do and we welcome and encourage as much American investments and we can find,” said Ambassador Jones.
Other issues discussed included immigration and the infrastructural development of the Bahamas.
Ambassador Jones invited all members visited to travel to The Bahamas soon.
