On Friday, December 1, 2023, Ambassador Wendall Jones paid a courtesy call on Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, United States Representative of Florida’s 24th Congressional District, at Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C. Ambassador Jones and Congresswoman Wilson spoke about the Congresswoman’s Bahamian ties, including the designation of the western portion of Coconut Groove, Miami, as “Little Bahamas of Coconut Groove”. There is a rich history of Bahamians in Miami who aided in constructing many buildings in the city.
During the meeting, Congresswoman Wilson also shared her initiative, the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project, which assists and supports at-risk boys by providing them with other opportunities and mentorship to lead them to success. There are plans for the initiative to expand to Nassau, The Bahamas, in the coming months.
Congresswoman Wilson looks forward to continued collaboration between the United States and The Bahamas and hopes to establish other ventures influenced by Bahamian culture.
Ambassador Jones is seen presenting a copy of the book on the 50th Anniversary of Bahamian Independence to Ms. Wilson.
