Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, 24 September 2019, His Excellency Sidney Collie, Ambassador of The Bahamas and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States, participated in a panel discussion on the impacts of climate change.

Held as part of The Atlantic Festival, the panel, entitled “Our Shared Planet”, allowed for a discussion on the effects of Hurricane Dorian in The Bahamas. In his remarks, Ambassador Collie highlighted the increase in severity and frequency of storms around the world, the implications of environmental degradation on small communities, and the challenges of rebuilding in the face of disaster.

Additional panel speakers included Brian Schatz, United States Senator of Hawaii; Sue Biniaz, Senior Fellow for Climate Change, United Nations Foundation; Richard Duke, President, Gigaton Strategies; and Dyanna Jaye, Co-founder of the Sunrise Movement.

The Atlantic Festival is a three-day event through which participants engage in conversations on society’s most critical issues. Other notable speakers participating in the Festival include Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives; Yo-Yo Ma, internationally acclaimed cellist; and Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap Inc.
