WASHINGTON, D.C.- On Wednesday 10th December, 2019, His Excellency Sidney Collie, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United States of America and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the OAS, participated in a commemorative ceremony to launch the Profuturo Digital Classrooms Programme in The Bahamas.

This initiative will assist The Ministry of Education, Bahamas with transforming public education in The Bahamas through digitization.

In his remarks, Ambassador Collie thanked the Organization of American States (OAS) and Profuturo and also reflected on his time as a former teacher at The San Salvador Training College, where the mantra was Improvisation.

“We were trained to ‘improvise’ as teachers returning to remote islands with limited teaching resources and aid. The then Minister of Education, the late Sir Cecil Wallace Whitfield, in his inaugural address, implored us to ‘use what we have to get want we want’.

Ambassador Collie further added that with this modern distance learning tool, students in remote areas with scarce resources can now be exposed to and take advantage of this digital classroom in real time with other students anywhere in The Bahamas or the world.
