Washington, D.C. – During the first plenary session of the 50th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), The Minister of Foreign Affairs, The Hon. Darren A. Henfield was elected to serve as chair of the General Assembly, which will take place from October 20th-21st, 2020.


For the first time in the organization’s history, Member States will meet in a virtual forum in light of the Coronavirus Pandemic.


The Assembly is expected to address a wide range of issues currently facing the hemispheric body among which are the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery post COVID, human rights, hemispheric security, climate change, the financial situation of the organization and a range of political issues.

Other members of The Bahamas delegation to the 50th OAS GA include, H.E. Sidney Collie, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United States and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the OAS and diplomatic staff of the Permanent Mission; H.E. Sharon Brennen-Haylock, Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Kenya Ward, Ambassador at large in the Office of The Minister and Foreign Service Officers in the Americas Division.
